Sugar Time is really finished by now but it is still time to taste this unique North American product that is a southern Quebec specialty. I'm talking about the wonderful maple syrup. Ranked among the world's best sugar, and this, both in taste as nutritious, maple syrup can be processed into flakes, powder, butter, taffy, etc.., etc.. David Theroux designed a series of tastings of maple syrup and its derivatives in my packaging class last year. Packaged in test tubes the series is embedded in a block of maple wood ready to enjoy.

As a gift for clients & future clients, Duel developed special handmade  Duelicious pralines with Mr. Chocolate from Scheveningen with four new unique flavours: Ginger, Lemongrass & Lime, Pepper and Seasalt & Tarragon. Each client was given a 'Bite Me package' with 4 different pralines. Before getting to the chocolate there was a small note saying 'scan me first' which refers to a website url containing your own name. Once online, you'll see a personal 'Try us it's Sweet!' film.

J’adore! Here's a great idea design by Korefe and brought to my attention by Michael. The first and only Cookbook you can actually read, cook and eat. Made out of 100% fresh pasta it can be opened, filled with ingredients and finally be cooked. Packaged as classic lasagne. The Cookbook was designed as a special project for a large publishing house.

Here’s a very nice idea conceived by Nicolas Ménard for my packaging course. We all know, microwave popcorn packaged in an envelope that swells as the grains burst. Now why not exploit this technology and add fun to it. In this concept, the popcorn kernels are packaged in single portions that can be inflated by introducing various forms of characters. Inspired by origami, this concept allows endless design possibilities.

Here’s a book recently published by the publishing by Sendpoints Publishing for witch Packaging UQAM had participated with the work of Guan Caron, Stephanie Malak and Andrea Moccanu. A real must for those interested in innovative forms of packaging design.

There was an early spring in Quebec this year. Metaphor or coincidence, there is also a global warm spirit for countless causes that bring down the people in the street. It seams there is a growing disconnection between the political elites and citizens in Quebec and Canada. The students strike against rising tuition is a good example of this ideological gap between politicians and civil society.
This year, all this excitement takes place simultaneously with this precious day, the only one we have, to take a moment to celebrate earth, this unique living space we have
A grand march was organized in Montreal today April 22, to celebrate our planet. But what were we going to do that day? Will it be reclaimed by various other interest groups? Listening to the media recently, I realized that the "everything is in everything" in Quebec had already begun to dilute the very purpose of Earth Day.
Of course with a somewhat holistic thinking, one can associate policies of one with environmental problems of others, but that is not the purpose of it.... So I went to walk this afternoon with my son Felix and I must say that, contrary to my fears and despite the flowers of Lily, the red squares and (believe it or not) the flags of the patriots, the environmental approach was the main discourse.
Earth Day is an important and emotional day for me. It is not a claim, but rather a personal awareness and a commitment to life. A thought on the terrible impact that we (humanity) have on the environment and towards what we want for the future. A future that will continue with or without us. Happy Earth Day to everyone!

Here is a small tribute to the maritime tragedy designed by Hugo Dufour last year as a design packaging project for paper tissue.
Here's another project developed in Ginette Caron's workshop at the Intuit-Lab in Paris this winter. The concept was developed by Lan-Van Vu and Marion Dufour who offer us a way to brew his tea while preserving the warmth of the hot beverage.

Each year at UQAM, we host foreign students who bring us a little from another worldview on design and maybe a bit of openness to the world as an essential ingredient of wisdom. However, because of our students strike in Quebec, many foreigned students find themselves in an extremely difficult situation where, despite their best organization efforts time and money spent for this great exchange project, they would only get a few weeks of classes. I must say that I'm very sorry for them and I am frankly embarrassed about this situation.
It is the case of Marianne Kaufmann from Politechnico di Milano with whom I have had the opportunity to work but only for five weeks on the Solo tea concept. This is actually a set of three cookies and a tea bag packaged together for a short “Solo” break.

Tea Match is a wink to social media and networking contacts. It is also a pun to borrow the form and the function of the match carton to justify the word match, which takes two meanings in the language of Shakespeare. A nice concept designed by Julie Rousseau in my packaging course.

Asked to develop an innovative concept for tea, Maude Arès-Blouin proposed that pretty classic packaging for the pouches. In a tasting box of floral teas, the pouches are attached to tabs that are part of the box, thus referring to the flower petals. Box delightfully illustrated semi-abstract textures of tea flowers and once open reveals its contents. Inspired users can indulge in the carefree love expressed famous flower play "She love me, she loves me not."
